Embracing Emotions
Have you ever thought about how the way emotions were handled in our upbringing shapes the way we deal with feelings as an adult?…
Were emotions fully embraced or pushed aside by your caregivers, as a child? Maybe only the "positive" ones were given attention or considered acceptable?
These past experiences likely play a big role in how you approach emotions today.
We are all made in the image of a God who is pretty emotional, believe it or not. Being emotional beings ourselves, it's important to get comfortable with recognizing and accepting our own feelings while also being open to understanding and engaging with the emotions of those we care about.Emotions have this innate way of bringing us together and fostering a sense of belonging, whether they're hard feelings or happy ones.
Looking at Jesus, His emotions showed us a deep compassion for others, His fiery sense of justice, and many moments of sorrow. By fully experiencing these emotions, Jesus teaches that embracing our feelings is key to forming genuine connections with others.
No matter how emotions were expressed in your past, your journey to healing involves embracing the full spectrum of emotions - the tough and the joyful. This process can help soften your heart and strengthen your ability to recognize God's guidance in your life.
Take a moment to check in with yourself: How are you feeling right now, and what might be the underlying needs behind that emotion? This daily simple practice can help you bridge the gap between your outer world and what is going on internally.
In it with you,
