Your Story Drives Your Decisions

Hey friends,

As we step into another year, it's natural for us to reflect on our lives and contemplate the changes we wish to make. We often find ourselves motivated to become a better version of ourselves, whether it's through weight loss, starting a business, carving out quiet time, or embracing a rigorous exercise routine.

Unbeknownst to us, our aspirations and goals are often shaped not by our true calling but by the narrative of our personal story. Instead of focusing on healing ourselves, year after year, we embark on a quest for self-improvement driven by the allure of the new year and the promise of a fresh start. We convince ourselves that if we can achieve certain milestones, we will finally find happiness and contentment. We make resolutions, join gyms, and invest in self-help tools, all in the hope of a desired outcome.

Yet, here lies the problem with this step-by-step process—it is not driven by our authentic selves but by the broken fragments of our story, desperately seeking a sense of peace that proves elusive time and time again. So, how can we break free from this vicious cycle?

When triggered by circumstances or emotions, take a moment to pause and engage with your thoughts. As the scripture suggests, "take every thought captive" (2 Corinthians 10:5). Examine the thought that emerges and the resulting emotional reaction it elicits. Instead of impulsively attempting to fix what's happening internally with external remedies, this is the moment to take deliberate action aligned with who you were truly created to be. By doing so, the outcomes will be more enduring, stemming from a deeper desire to heal and a truer understanding of yourself.

Remember, the trigger creates thoughts, thoughts lead to action, and action ultimately shapes our outcomes. By incorporating this pause at the thought stage, we can avoid hasty actions driven by instant gratification.Instead, we can ask ourselves, "What am I genuinely thinking or needing?"

Allow space for this year's triggers be the catalyst for profound internal transformation. Embrace the opportunity to go beyond mere external changes and embark on a journey of self-discovery and growth. Together, let's make this year one marked by lasting, meaningful change. This can be your best year yet as you seek Gods guidance in the actions needed to step further into who you were created to be.
